Demote Sitelink URL - Google Webmasters Tool

Like other updates, Google has recently started testing new sitelinks format.

Sitelinks are links to other pages on your site that may appear under the search result for your site. Google generates these links automatically, and not all sites have sitelinks.

Since Google has testing the new sitelink format, it’s not enabled to all the users and it can be seen only by few users from Today (16 Aug, 2011) onwards. Soon this update will be available to all the Google users.

Demote Sitelink URL:

Google Webmaters Tools has removed the sitelink blocking option and enabled a new feature to “Demote Sitelink URLs”. Using this tool we can easily demote the sitelink URLs which you don’t want to appear in Google Search Results. Goolge will take these demote requests into their account when generating sitelinks to your website. And Google didn’t give any guarantee that your demoted pages will not appear as a sitelink in SERP.

As of now, Google Webmaster Tools allows you to demote up to 100 URLs per website. Sitelinks demotions are effective for 90 days from your recent visit to the Site links page in Webmaster Tools.

It will take some time to reflect your changes in Search results when you have demote or undemote a sitelink using Sitelink Demote option.
